Penny & Lewis were one of my 2021 couples who were forced to make changes to their wedding due to Covid restrictions. They had originally planned to have a wedding at a West Midlands Barn wedding venue. The uncertainty on guest numbers left them wondering if they’d get the wedding they’d hoped for. Like a lot of my couples last year, they had to change their plans and their date. The wedding would now be in Cheshire, with the ceremony at Smallwood Church and a marquee reception, in a field owned by Penny’s parents. Their new wedding date fell the week after rule of only 30 guests was lifted. Roll on the big celebrations! I was so happy for them and couldn’t wait to be back shooting a full day of wedding photography. On the morning of the wedding I set off for the Cheshire countryside and Smallwood Church. Penny and the girls were getting ready at her parents gorgeous cottage. It was a lovely relaxing morning with lots of laughter and champagne.

I loved the flowers at this wedding! They were just so pretty and worked really well for the countryside setting. The florist was Delamere Flower Farm

I headed literally down the lane to St John the Baptist Church, known locally as Smallwood Church. Shortly after Penny arrived in a horse drawn carriage and was met by her bridesmaids. The Bridesmaids wore gorgeous pale silver beaded dresses. Smallwood church in Cheshire, is quite small inside, but as my wedding photography is documentary style, I was able to stand tucked away slightly to the side at the front. By doing this I was still able to get some lovely shots of Penny walking down the aisle and Lewis seeing her for the first time.

Golden Hour Cheshire wedding photography

When I saw the long grass in the meadow, I knew it would be a great spot for some couple portraits at sunset. I just had to wait for that magical time called golden hour (well usually golden 15 minutes really) just before the sun sets and get Penny and Lewis to take a break from party. We were treated to the most gorgeous light and by taking just 10 minutes, created some beautiful evening portraits.
